Our Nursery provides your child with free access to equipment suitable to their age, ability and interests. Children are involved in a wide range of activities & presented with lots of opportunities for self expression, including singing, listening to & making music, story time, books, games, paper, paints, crayons, glue, scissors & other art/craft materials, play dough, sand, water, role playing equipment and numerous toys.

Outdoor play is as important to us as indoor play and our building has been specifically designed to give direct access from each of our childcare rooms to our secure garden. Your child will be encouraged to make use of this area for exploring and gardening, as well as the use of outdoor play equipment, to provide them with an understanding of the environment in which we live.

Whilst our activities are planned and purposeful, we prefer not to impose a rigid structure on the daily activities so that all opportunities for learning may be embraced and the children's natural spontaneity is not under-valued.

Children are cared for according to age in one of our three childcare rooms. The very best care is provided throughout the nursery, but there are specific points worth noting concerning each of these areas:

1) Baby room (6weeks-2years) - through a range of play equipment and activities, together with close staff interaction, we stimulate your child's curiosity for the world around them. Individual baby needs and routines are very important to us and these will be discussed with you before your baby's starting date. A separate sleep room, which can be viewed directly from the main room, is provided to enable your baby to sleep whenever they wish.

2) Toddlers (2-3 years) - the emphasis here is on learning social skills through play and on having fun! As your child becomes ready for toilet training, they will be given every encouragement by our staff and we will work closely with you to ensure a consistent approach between home and nursery.

3) Pre-school (3-5 years) - our room provides an exciting and challenging environment for your child's mind and our Foundation Stage Curriculum encompasses the 6 early learning goals. A "quiet room" is also provided for the children's use as an area to relax and unwind if they wish.

Your child's progress -your child will be assigned a keyworker, who is specially responsible for and aware of your child's needs and development. A written record of progress, with examples of activities will be kept and informal parents evenings are held for you to discuss your child's progress. You are welcome to discuss your child with us at anytime.

Our designated Community room is provided for the use of the local community and outside agencies in providing support to the family unit. It is also available for hire to outside groups wishing to use the facility.

Being sited at Queensbury Upper School, we are lucky enough to have access to the facilities of a modern and progressive school.

Food and Nutrition

Meal times are as much about social skills and development as they are about eating. We aim to make this a relaxed enjoyable experience and encourage our children (never force!) to try a range of foods.

A hot 2 course meal is served at lunchtime and a high tea is provided in the afternoon.

In addition to these, a snack (typically fruit, cheese, bread, wholemeal biscuits and milk/water) are served mid-morning. Drinks are freely available throughout the day.

All our meals are carefully planned, nutritionally balanced and freshly prepared. Please advise us of any individual religious or health requirements that your child may have.
